The defendant confessed to 17 offences at the judicial center on the end of the week

A person who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
